10 Cybersecurity Questions Every Owner Should Ask

    8 min readJuly 27, 2026

Cybersecurity can feel overwhelming, but it usually comes down to a handful of honest questions. If you can't answer these confidently, that's not a failure — it's a starting point.

    1. Who has admin access to our critical systems, and when was it last reviewed? 2. Is multi-factor authentication enforced on every account that matters? 3. Do we know where our sensitive data lives and who can reach it?

    4. If we were hit by ransomware today, how quickly could we recover — and from what? 5. When did we last test a restore from backup, not just confirm a backup ran? 6. Are our employees trained to spot phishing, and do we test them?

    7. What's our plan for the first 24 hours after an incident? 8. Have we reviewed our cyber-insurance coverage in the last year? 9. Are our vendors and third-party tools held to the same standard we hold ourselves? 10. Who is accountable for security at the leadership level?

You don't need perfect answers to all ten today. You need to know which ones are blank — and a plan to close them. That's how you turn security fear into a manageable, prioritized effort.
