    AI Governance Without the Jargon

    7 min readJune 21, 2026

Governance sounds like bureaucracy. Done badly, it is. Done well, it's the difference between your team using AI confidently and using it secretly — and dangerously.

Good governance starts with a simple question: what data is okay to put into an AI tool, and what isn't? Write that down. Client confidential information, financials, personal data, and anything covered by regulation should never go into a public tool without explicit approval.

Then set expectations for review. AI can draft, summarize, and analyze — but a human owns the output before it reaches a client or a decision. That's not a burden; it's just professional responsibility applied to a new tool.

Keep the policy short. A one-page guide your team actually reads beats a fifty-page manual nobody opens. Update it as tools and risks evolve. The goal isn't to control every keystroke — it's to make the safe path the easy path.
